About the copper

Why store water in copper?

Keeping water overnight in a copper vessel is a habit families in India have followed for generations. It's called tamra jal. Many people simply find it turns drinking water into a small daily ritual they actually stick with: fill it at night, pour your first glass in the morning.

Is it safe to drink from copper every day?

Yes, when used as intended: plain water only, rested 6 to 8 hours, and no longer than 12 hours. Health Canada sets the guideline for copper in drinking water at 2 mg/L. Please don't use the bottle for lemon water, juice, electrolyte mixes or boiling liquids, as acidic and very hot drinks react with copper.

How is a Tamba bottle different from copper bottles on Amazon?

Many "copper" bottles sold online are steel or aluminum with a thin copper coating, or have a plastic liner inside. Tamba bottles are solid 99.9% pure copper, inside and out, hand-hammered by coppersmiths in India. Every bottle comes with a purity certificate.

How can I check it's real copper?

Hold a fridge magnet against the body of the bottle. Solid copper isn't magnetic, so the magnet won't stick. If it does, there's steel underneath, and it isn't one of ours.

Will the water taste different?

Most people notice a crisp, clean taste with a faint mineral note. If the taste feels too strong, let the water rest for a shorter time (4 to 6 hours). A sharp metallic taste usually means the bottle is due for a clean.

Use & care

How do I use my bottle?

Fill it with room-temperature water in the evening, close the lid and leave it on your nightstand or counter. In the morning, drink your first glass before coffee. Rinse and refill the same evening.

How do I clean it?

Rinse with water after use and let it air-dry with the lid off. Once a week, dip half a lemon in salt, scrub the inside, then rinse well. Avoid the dishwasher, bleach and abrasive sponges.

Will my bottle change colour?

Yes. Real copper slowly darkens and develops a natural patina. It's a sign you're using genuine copper. You can bring back the shine anytime with lemon and salt.

How long will it last?

With simple care, a solid copper bottle lasts for many years. There's no coating to wear off and no plastic to replace.
